These two wires are very similar to the naked eye, but they are different at the same time. Both cables have pros and cons considering what suits you better in terms of use and what fulfills your needs.
Wedge wire v/s woven wire
We are going to take a look at each material in the following categories to understand it in a better way.
· Strength
When it comes to strength or durability, wedge wires are inherently more potent than woven wires because they are made up of heavier wire components than woven wires, which are made from more good specifications of mesh wire.
However, considering woven wires itself is not more healthy than wedge wires because of other processes like laminating into multiple layers and combining it with an extra support or protection structure.
· Cleaning process
Both the wires, such as woven and wedge, are cleaned under ‘surface filtrations,’ meaning that they filter the cake, building up material from a liquid that resides on the surface of the filter. This adds an advantage to the filter to be cleaned and reused.
While you may see that both the wires are cleanable and reusable, wedge wire is usually more easily cleaned due to a smooth surface structure in woven cables. Also, wedge wires have a bit less risk of cleaning and damaging the material, while woven wires hold a little more.
· Weight
Another factor to be considered necessary while differentiating is weight. Wedge wires are solid and healthy regarding their importance, and they have relatively thick and broad filtration located closely together and a strong support structure for nearly all solid materials.
If you are planning for micron ratings and pressure needs, it will allow the use of woven wires, considering your filter media will weigh less. This could further reduce system weight if fewer strength components are used to support filter media.
· Life span
The lifespan of a wire can be decided by how long a filter can run between the cleanings in the sense of how many times that filter can be cleaned and how long the filter will last under its conditions when it operates.
Wedge wires are typically more robust and, most of the time can be cleaned easily, as said before, so that they may have a longer lifespan than woven wires.
The more delicate darlings are woven wires that need more care and attention while cleaning compared to wedge wires. It still can be cleaned and maintained better, but there is a higher risk of wear and tear. Gradually wedge wires hold a longer life span.
· Cost
Wedge wires are typically a little more expensive because they are used for special requirements, which woven cables don’t require.
This is due to the volume of metal involved and speed of pollution, while the cost decides to produce which types of filter.
